Part 380
Part 380
In the 1970s , Congress moved to create a consumer protection mechanism to prevent unscrupulous persons from absconding with funds from single-seat ticket sales.  It was folded into Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations, as Part 380, and administered not by the FAA, but directly by the DOT. With little exception, the law has remained untouched since it was enacted. Part 380 has been successfully used around the nation to make previously inaccessible air travel available to the common flier.  Put simply, Part 380 is a legal mechanism allowing for individual seats to be marketed and sold in a Part 135 operating environment without commuter authority.

Through the creation of the Aviation Marketplace, MemberJets has harnessed the power of 380 and developed an industry central platform that allows brokers, travel agents and aircraft operators to convert any flight into a Part 380 public charter.  This platform provides the DOT regulatory compliance for all partners as well as a central booking system resulting in the first and only DOT Part 380 Marketplace.

There are a little less than 200 Indirect Air Carriers approved by the US DOT.  In 2009, 13,267 public charter flights were filed with the DOT.  Over 80% of those flights were filed by 50 Indirect Air Carriers.  By 2016, the number of flights skyrocketed to over 47,000 and the number continues to grow rapidly.

Taking these staggering numbers in to account, only MemberJets is tapping into the hidden power of Part 380.  We are leading the revolution in the fastest evolving trend in U.S. by making indirect air travel accessible to a new demographic in a true industry driven marketplace.
